G1906
A 1906 granary, dismantled and moved into the garden of its owners, becomes a guest house. The work is deliberate in its restraint: the vernacular spirit of the building is honored, its constructive memory preserved.
Inside, the previously closed volume is opened to light, strip roof windows cut across the ceiling, an openwork mezzanine filters daylight down to the ground floor below.
The exterior envelope is fully refurbished, made weather-tight and durable. Nothing is added that was not already implied. The granary is given new use without being asked to forget what it was.
