70 degrés
At 3,504 metres, on the crest of a moraine above Évolène, the old huts are taken apart and reborn. Their deconstructed elements form the central technical core of the new refuge, a compact mass around which the living spaces are freed.
The elongated volume rests on two pairs of pillars, following the gentlest line of the slope. To the west, it detaches from the ground, suspended against the high-altitude landscape. Access is by footbridge.
The envelope, integrated, durable, functions as a self-sufficient machine: its gutter roof collects water in this dry alpine environment. Nothing is wasted. The building carries the memory of what it replaced.
